Situated in the heart of Melbourne's unique sports and entertainment precinct, Olympic Park Stadium and its surrounding venues have always been a special part of Melbourne.

Over the past 150 years, the site has been home to Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens (Australia's first Zoological Gardens), Melbourne's Friendly Society Gardens, the Amateur Sports Grounds and the Melbourne Motordrome/Olympic Park Speedway until redevelopments for the 1956 Olympic Games. The building of two stadiums, a velodrome, and a new world standard 5,500 seat swimming pool (now known as the Lexus Centre) accommodated Olympic hockey, soccer, athletics, swimming, water polo and diving. 

In the 1960s and 1970s, sports such as swimming, athletics, rugby and soccer were well patronised, with athletics attracting over 900,000 spectators annually.

In 1972 the velodrome was demolished and converted into an 800-space car park, and both of the stands were covered for patron comfort.

In 1997, the Western sports ground was upgraded with a new international standard athletics track, refurbished seating, new functions rooms, corporate facilities, landscaping and signage.

    

Today, Olympic Park Stadium features the first accredited FIFA soccer pitch in Australia, an athletics track, concert facilities, a range of hospitality facilities, and can accommodate up to 18,500 people.

Olympic Park Stadium hosts some of Australia’s premier sports and entertainment events, including athletics, soccer and rugby league at local, national and international standards. The Olympic Park Stadium hosts home games of NRL team Melbourne Storm.

Olympic Park Stadium is located approximately one kilometre from the Central Business District and is easily accessible via tram, train, bus and watercraft.
