Andrew Travis joins Melbourne & Olympic Parks

Australia’s leading sport and entertainment precinct, Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP), has today announced the appointment of respected sport and venue administrator Andrew Travis.

Former Gold Coast Suns CEO and experienced venue management professional, Mr Travis will join the Executive team as the Director of Infrastructure, responsible for overseeing the comprehensive redevelopment of Melbourne Park.

M&OP CEO, Brian Morris, said Mr Travis’ arrival coincided with the recent State Budget funding announcement of $271.55 million to advance the next stage of redevelopment, which will ensure the precinct remains the home of the Australian Open for many years to come.

“This funding, combined with the current major redevelopment of the iconic Rod Laver Arena, brings an exciting opportunity for Andrew to lead and shape the future of our vastly expanded portfolio of assets and their operation,” Mr Morris said.

“Andrew brings to the role a wealth of expertise following his role in leading the development of Metricon Stadium, as well as his track record in building positive team cultures at professional AFL clubs and venues.

“He was also involved in the development of M&OP’s own AAMI Park, and we are delighted to welcome him back into the fold,” he said.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Coast SUNS AFL team, Andrew focussed on building a club that was sustainable and respected by all for its drive, professionalism, its culture and its commitment to both the game and the community that supported the club.
Andrew originally served as the Chief Operating Officer at the Gold Coast SUNS, overseeing the construction of the $144 million Metricon Stadium at Carrara. This key piece of community infrastructure, along with a $22 million elite training and administration hub which set a new benchmark for AFL training facilities, are a legacy platform upon which the Club can build its future.

He has a strong background in Venues and Fan experience, having previously worked as the Director of Infrastructure at Melbourne & Olympic Parks where he led the client team in the construction of the iconic $268 million AAMI Park. Before that, Andrew worked as General Manager Operations at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

He is a graduate from the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Senior Executive Symposium and was the recipient of the prestigious AFL Graeme Samuel Scholarship.
Andrew qualified as a Certified Practising Accountant, is an Accredited Venue Manager (AVM) and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Mr Travis will commence with M&OP on Monday 22 May.
